Looking Back on 2012 Plus a Peak at Springnest’s Roadmap for 2013


As 2012 is coming to an end I thought I’d reflect on the past year and give a brief overview of Springnest’s roadmap for 2013. Saying that this year flew by seems like a terrible cliche, yet I’ll be lying if I claimed that the past 12 months (with many victories and some unexpected twists) did not pass quicker than I had imagined.

Some highlights from 2012

The birth, development and launch of Springnest

We have spent most of our time, energy and coffee budget in 2012 plotting, designing and building the vision that is Springnest: a simple, powerful, sustainable online marketing solution, crafted to cater for the needs of tourism and hospitality businesses. It has been humbling to put our passion and expertise to use, introducing a real online marketing solution to an industry we love.

Indaba 2012

In May we headed to Durban where we got to demo and show off Springnest for the first time at the 2012 Tourism Indaba. We received valuable feedback, inspiring reactions and even our first bit of press in the Indaba Daily.

E-Tourism Africa Summit

I was invited by Damian Cook to speak at this year’s E-Tourism summit, hosted by E-Tourism frontiers, Cape Town Tourism and VISA. Some of the other speakers included representatives from Facebook, Youtube, Tripadvisor, Betapond, HumanityTV, Nightsbridge and more. I presented a practical session on Social Media Campaigns for travel. You can view the keynote here.

A new website and online marketing strategy for the Livingstone Tourism Association, Zambia

We were recruited to contribute to a consulting project aimed at developing a new marketing and positioning strategy for the Livingstone Tourism Association in Zambia. The project was lead by The Journey Tourism Consulting and Management. Springnest was responsible for everything and anything relating to the LTA’s online strategy, including a brand new DMO website for Livingstone and custom content management system.

Springnest Education: eTourism workshops and practical sessions

In October Niel and I hosted a 2-day online tourism marketing seminar for tourism businesses in Livingstone. The workshops covered everything from tourism website standards to Twitter and Facebook crash courses.

What’s coming in 2013?

New website features to boost your tourism business’ online presence

Yup, over the next few months Springnest clients will have access to a load of new features to improve and modify their websites. Some of these will include new themes and integration of more popular third-party marketing services & booking engines.
